Chicago EMDR Therapy

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy modality that helps people heal from trauma, PTSD, and overwhelming life experiences. EMDR uses guided eye movements and other bilateral stimulation techniques to help your brain reprocess painful memories in a safe and supportive way. The goal is to reduce the emotional intensity of the memory, so it feels like something from your past rather than something controlling your present.

Who can benefit from EMDR therapy?

EMDR is especially effective for people living with:

EMDR therapy can help individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) process painful memories, reduce triggers, and regain a sense of safety and control.
EMDR therapy supports healing from childhood trauma and abuse by helping you process painful memories, reduce emotional triggers, and create healthier patterns for the future.
EMDR therapy can ease anxiety and panic attacks by addressing root causes, calming the nervous system, and building long-term resilience and inner peace.
EMDR therapy helps reduce the intensity of phobias and fears by targeting root memories and experiences, creating space for calm and resilience.
Struggling with low self-esteem or negative self-beliefs? EMDR therapy can reframe core beliefs, release past experiences, and build lasting self-worth and confidence.
Start EMDR Today

At Embodied Wellness Center in Chicago, our therapists create a safe, supportive space for EMDR sessions. We know that starting trauma therapy can feel overwhelming, and we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you.

We combine EMDR with other therapeutic modalities like mindfulness, somatic therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) when helpful. This integrative approach ensures you not only heal from the past but also gain tools to manage stress and feel more grounded in your daily life.

Gratitude isn’t just about saying “thank you”; it’s about feeling the fullness of what’s already here. Take a moment to reflect on the following prompts to guide you in identifying things to be grateful for. You can meditate or visualize these things, or you can journal about them. Enjoy!

Our bodies are not meant to be in fight-or-flight long-term, but due to the fast paced busy lives many of us lead, we can become stuck in fight-or-flight, which is bad for our physical and mental health.

If you give yourself all day to finish something, chances are it’ll take all day. Try setting time limits, prioritizing what matters, and giving yourself permission to stop. Productivity isn’t about working more—it’s about working smarter.

Emotions and moods may feel similar, but they’re not the same. Emotions are intense, short-lived reactions to specific events—like frustration when you hit traffic or joy when you see a friend. Moods, on the other hand, are more long-lasting and less tied to a particular trigger. You might wake up feeling “off” without knowing why. Recognizing the difference can help you manage your emotional well-being with more clarity and self-awareness.
